Frequently asked questions

  • What is psychodynamic therapy?
Psychodynamic therapy is a type of talk therapy that focuses on understanding how unconscious thoughts, past experiences, and early childhood shape current behaviours and emotions and thought patterns. It explores unresolved issues and patterns that may be influencing relationships and mental health.
  • Are sessions confidential?
Absolutely! Anything that is discussed during therapy is confidential. Candid discussions allow for the psychologist to have a deeper understanding of issues and conflicts, helping to make the counselling more effective. Should information need to be shared with other parties for non-urgent circumstances, a written consent form will be needed from the client. In Australia, psychologists are bound by ethical guidelines and legal requirements to maintain confidentiality, but there are specific situations in which they are required or permitted to break confidentiality. If a psychologist believes that a client is at serious risk of self-harm (e.g., suicide) or is a risk to others (e.g., violence, harm, or abuse towards others), they may breach confidentiality to protect the client or others. In these cases, your psychologist will aim to discuss these concerns with you prior to disclosure of these risks.
  • How many sessions will I need?
The process is different for every person. The time needed to resolve issues will depend on the circumstances and presenting issues of each person. Zipporah will work at a pace that is both sensitive and beneficial to resolving the presenting issues, and achieving realistic outcomes. Counselling may be a long term or short term process, depending on the requirements of the situation.
  • Can I use private health insurance?
Yes. Headway Therapy Online is registered with most private health insurance companies.
  • Can I receive Medicare rebates?
Yes. You must first obtain a letter of referral and a Mental Health Care Plan from a GP. This will determine your Medicare rebate eligibility and session allowances. Where the client is eligible for Medicare, receipts will be provided to claim the Medicare rebate.
  • Do I need a referral from a GP to have sessions?
No. You are not required to have a referral unless you are eligible and would like to receive Medicare rebates.

Yes! Sessions are available Australia wide and internationally via Telehealth system (Coreplus), FaceTime, Zoom or a telephone call.
  • What are the fees?
A session (50 minutes) is $260. Medicare rebates are available if you have a Mental Health Care Plan and a referral from a GP. Private health insurance rebates may be available to clients with applicable private health cover.
  • What are the payment methods accepted?
EFTPOS, MasterCard, Visa and AMEX are accepted for payment. Payment is due on the day of attendance.
  • What is the cancellation policy?
Notice Period: Clients are required to provide at least 24 to 48 hours' notice if they need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This can be done via email, SMS or phone. Late Cancellations: If a client cancels or reschedules an appointment less than 24 hours before the scheduled time, they may be charged the full session fee. No-Show Policy: If a client misses an appointment without notifying the therapist, it is considered a no-show. A full session fee may be charged in this case. Extenuating Circumstances: In cases of emergency or illness, the therapist may waive the cancellation fee at their discretion. However, the client should notify the therapist as soon as possible. Payment Method: Fees for late cancellations or no-shows are generally required to be paid through the same payment method used for regular sessions, such as direct bank transfer, credit card, or another arrangement.
